{"id":2171,"date":"2025-05-23T12:55:26","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T11:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thomas-kopton.de\/vblog\/?p=2171"},"modified":"2025-05-23T12:55:28","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T11:55:28","slug":"audit-events-in-vmware-aria-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomas-kopton.de\/vblog\/?p=2171","title":{"rendered":"Audit Events in VMware Aria Operations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my previous blog post, I described how to capture and visualize both successful and, more importantly, failed login attempts in NSX environment using <strong>Aria Operations for Logs<\/strong> dashboards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the release of\u00a0<strong>Aria Operations 8.18<\/strong>, VMware has made it even easier to monitor such audit events in vSphere components directly within Aria Operations itself, thanks to the new\u00a0<strong>Audit Events<\/strong>\u00a0functionality.\u00a0This feature provides a fast and straightforward way to gain visibility into critical security and operational activities across your vSphere infrastructure &#8211; without the need for complex integrations or custom dashboards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this post, I\u2019ll walk you through the prerequisites for using Audit Events in Aria Operations, and highlight the key benefits this new feature brings to your monitoring and compliance workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are Audit Events in Aria Operations?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Audit Events in Aria Operations allow you to view, filter, and analyze a wide range of activity logs across your vCenter Servers, including user logins, logouts, configuration changes, permission modifications, and more.&nbsp;For all details please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/techdocs.broadcom.com\/us\/en\/vmware-cis\/aria\/aria-operations\/8-18\/vmware-aria-operations-configuration-guide-8-18\/configuring-and-viewing-audit-events\/what-are-audit-events.html\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">official documentation<\/mark><\/a>. These events are crucial for security and compliance audits, enabling you to quickly identify suspicious actions, trace changes, and ensure accountability within your virtual infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites for Using Audit Events<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To leverage Audit Events in Aria Operations 8.18, you need to meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once these prerequisites are fulfilled, Audit Events become available within the Aria Operations interface, allowing you to filter events by severity, user, vCenter, object type, object ID, and event category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>Aria Operations for Logs Integration<\/strong>&nbsp;must be properly configured in Aria Operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The minimum required version for <strong>Aria Operations for Logs<\/strong> is&nbsp;<strong>8.18<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aria Operations for Logs<\/strong>&nbsp;must be collecting logs from all vCenter Servers that are also monitored by Aria Operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following screenshot shows the very simple Aria Operations for Logs Integration configuration in Aria
